At Musical Empowerment, we believe in the power of music to transform lives, build confidence, and create community. Through our over 24 years of providing free, student-led music mentorship programs, we provide equitable access to music education for youth who would not otherwise have the opportunity. Our work is rooted in creativity, connection, and a commitment to empowering the next generation of leaders and musicians.
The Executive Director will play a critical role in advancing Musical Empowerment’s mission by leading strategy, operations, and fundraising efforts. This individual will guide the organization through its next phase of growth, ensuring long-term sustainability while expanding access to high-quality music programming for youth across our communities.
Role Overview
The Executive Director is responsible for the overall leadership, strategic direction, and operational management of Musical Empowerment. This includes driving fundraising initiatives, managing organizational performance, and building strong relationships with key stakeholders. The Executive Director will work closely with the Board of Directors to set and achieve strategic goals, ensuring the organization’s financial health, program impact, and continued growth.

On the day-to-day, you will:
● Partner with the Board of Directors to set strategic priorities and organizational goals
● Oversee daily operations, ensuring effective program delivery and organizational efficiency
● Lead and execute a comprehensive fundraising strategy, including individual giving, grants, corporate partnerships, and events
● Cultivate and steward relationships with donors, sponsors, and community partners to ensure sustained financial support
● Manage and mentor staff and volunteers, fostering a strong and inclusive organizational culture
● Develop and manage the annual budget, ensuring financial sustainability and responsible resource allocation
● Represent Musical Empowerment externally, serving as the primary spokesperson and advocate
● Establish and track key performance indicators to measure program impact and organizational success
● Ensure compliance with nonprofit regulations and best practices
Job requirements include:
● Bachelor’s degree or equivalent professional experience; advanced degree is a plus
● Minimum of 5–7 years of leadership experience in nonprofit management, fundraising and development, arts administration, or a related field
● Proven track record of successful fundraising, including securing major gifts, grants, and partnerships
● Experience managing budgets and overseeing organizational operations
● Demonstrated ability to build and maintain relationships with diverse stakeholders
● Strong leadership and team management skills, with a commitment to mentorship and staff development
● Passion for music, arts education, and youth development
● Excellent communication, storytelling, and public speaking skills
● Experience working in a mission-driven or community-based organization preferred
Location:
● Hybrid position
○ Primarily remote, with occasional in-person meetings as necessary
○ Preference given to candidates located in North Carolina for access to the majority of current program locations
Compensation:
● The base salary for this position is $75,000, plus Musical Empowerment is offering a first-year performance bonus of between $10,000 – $60,000 subject to approval by the Board of Directors. Musical Empowerment also offers an additional benefits package, including employee health insurance, holidays, and paid time off.

Experience in growing a nonprofit organization or scaling programs is highly valued. Ideally, the new Executive Director will begin work in mid-July.
